We hope you will join us on Saturday, September 15 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. for the MCAA’s annual airport picnic and open house. As always, free food and beverages will be provided by the MCAA with the help and support of the GAI flying clubs and the local Rotary Club.
This year, there will be several fun and hopefully interesting activities in store, including thrill rides in a classic 1942 Waco open-cockpit biplane owned and operated by John Corradi of Blue Ridge Biplane Rides. John is a retired United Airlines Boeing 777 captain with more than 23,000 hours of flight time, who has flown his Waco in the Bealton Flying Circus since 1999. Rides cost $50 for one person and $90 for two people. John brought the plane to GAI for last year’s picnic and was a huge success.
The folks at Chesapeake Sport Pilot flight school at Bay Bridge Airport to bring several of their light sport aircraft to GAI for a static display.
Our very own Dave Yacono will be on hand to talk about the Angel Flight program, and Darren Pralle is helping us coordinate Young Eagles rides for the kids. Tentatively the county’s Skymaster (aka MC10) will be on display, with pilots available to talk about this program. Also back are the kids’ face painter and moon bounce, and of course the paper airplane contest.
